Student: Beth Buckley
Course: BSc in Business
First placement role: Assistant Brand Manager at Babybel
Second placement role: Research Analyst at Q5
Choosing a course that suited me
I was first attracted to the School of Management because of the excellent reputation of the business school. Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ has extensive links with industry, a large alumni community and high-quality teaching. These were all huge factors in my decision.
As I didn’t know what career path I wanted to pursue, working in two different companies in two different roles was a massive selling point. I was also keen to learn business fundamentals before customising my degree to suit my interests, which the course offers.
How my two work placement roles compared
For my first placement, I worked at Babybel as the assistant brand manager. The role involved producing monthly performance reports, supporting the development of campaigns, leading e-retail projects and liaising with external agencies. The role was very varied. I spent time in trade marketing, sales and e-commerce, allowing me to figure out which career path I’d prefer.
For my second placement, I worked in London, as a Research Analyst at Q5. Q5 is a management consultancy focusing on organisational design, strategy, change and culture. My role focused on the project management and delivery of Q5’s pro-bono consulting offer to charities, not-for-profit organisations and small businesses. I was able to help some interesting organisations tackle their challenges, which was a really rewarding element of the job.
Securing a job offer
The opportunity to learn in a real working environment and gain an insight into a potential career has been invaluable.
My second placement employer offered me a graduate role. This allowed me to focus on my final year studies and make the most of my time on exchange in Canada.
I would not have been able to achieve what I have without the skills and experience I've gained at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ. The placement team, who helped me secure both placements, have provided invaluable support through mock interviews, checking CVs and cover letters, and meetings to discuss applications.
